Out with the old, in with the new!

Well, D23 has come and gone, and many, many exciting things were announced.  Big things!  Things that were only a twinkle in many eye’s for years! The one theme park news that I firmly believe that everyone has been holding out for was finally officiated over the weekend in Anaheim.

Disney and Lucasfilms have begun work on STAR TOURS 2.0

Yes.  There will be a new Star Tours ride.  Better yet, an updated one!

According to the DisneyBlog the ride is being set up at both Disneyland Resort and Disney Hollywood at the Walt Disney Resort in Florida.  The current Star Tours will shut down at the end of the month to begin renovation to the ride. It will reopen in 2011 at both parks.  The ride will contain all new footage and will be in 3D, creating a very unique ride experience for park goers and Star Wars fans alike.

POD RACES!  Friggin Podraces!  Not only that but the ride is suppose travel across other parts of Star Wars galaxy.  Fantastic!

Growing up Southern California, and literally within 5 minutes of Disneyland, Star Tours has always held a soft spot with me.  It was the first ride I freaked out on at the age of 4, but it became the one ride I loved the most with my many, many visits to the park.  That wacky robot voiced by Paul PEE WEE Rubens, Artoo and 3P0 in line, and the pictures of the Energizer Bunny as I left the ride.  I will miss all of these. They will always be found memories, but part of me cant wait for 2011 to get here fast enough.
