Duh-duh-duh, duh-dah-duh, duh-dah-duh…

I’ve already got “The Imperial March” in my head!  I’m all set for Star Wars: In Concert, coming this fall.  A tour of musicians performing music from the Star Wars saga will begin in Western and Southern cities.  Further US dates will be added soon, and plans to take the tour worldwide are in the making.

The tour begins on October 1st of this year in Anaheim, California (home to Disneyland and this writer’s baseball team), and further dates are to be added soon.  C-3PO himself, Anthony Daniels is touring with the company, and will provide introductions and narration, as visuals play on a giant hi-def screen on stage.  The multi-media event will feature a full company of musicians  including a symphony orchestra and choir – obviously to re-create such classics as “Duel Of The Fates”.  As if that’s not enough, an exhibition of costumes and props from the films, as well as samples of Williams’ hand-written music sheets.  Ticket information was not immediately available.

The tour was not George Lucas’ idea, but it has his blessing.  Unfortunately, it seems that John Williams will not be a part of this tour.  Still, while I realize that the Holy Saga has lost some cred with the geek world the last few years, I’m a Star Warrior to the core, and I love music.  And who can deny that John ‘Freaking’ Williams (as my children and I affectionately call him) is the greatest film composer in history, and that his work in that Far Away Galaxy represents a large portion of his best work.  I’m a frequent concert-goer, mostly rock stuff.  But I’ve always wanted to see Williams live.  This is probably the next best thing.  Maybe I’ll see you there!
